Church at Bodie Kit HO
Wood Craftsman kit. Not Laser cut.
The ghost town of Bodie, CA is located 18 miles from Bridgeport, the County Seat of Mono County. It is one of the most notable ghost towns of the West and is outstanding for its total isolation, the number of remaining buildings and their unusually good state of preservation. During its peak years, 1879-1881, the population of Bodie was estimated between10,000 and 13,000. It has been said that it was during this period that the town averaged six murders per week and gained national recognition as the "wildest town in the West". An extimated 90-100 million dollars in gold and silver was taken from the mines at Bodie.
The Methodist Church was erected in 1878-1879. This is the only church still standing in Bodie and the only Protestant church erected. The Catholic church built in 1878 burned to the ground in 1928. The last service at the Methodist Church was delivered in 1923 by Mr E.J. Clinton of San Francisco who had the church restored. Since then the inside has been badly vandalized. An oilcloth with the Ten Commandments printed on it hung behind the pulpit. "Thou Shalt Not steal" has been stolen. In 1962 Bodie became a California State Historical Park.
This is an original Classic Miniatures Kit. Enjoy. When finished you will have a piece of history in miniature.
